Has she been in a parish? Has she tried to talk to a priest about his homilies? Has she tried to deal with a liturgist? Few – FAR TOO FEW – preists are humble enough to let go and let God, much less let go and let the people take over. I don’t mean a revolution, but good Lord! I’ve been doing this Catholic think all my life and every time I’ve tried to explain to a priest how he’s hurt someone’s feelings (“Renee, why did XXX leave? I haven’t seen XXX in awhile…”) HE NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER ever took responsibility. When I’ve offered to edit homilies, I’ve been told to mind my own business. When my husband was slapped down in confession and I told the priest, he said, “Well, you can’t let one expereince determine your faith.” Wanna bet?????????????????? ARgh!!!! There. Off soapbox. But Mary, stick with it and I hope to join in your defense after my day job. xoxoxo

“Thank you for responding, Mary! I realize that you meant leaving a particular parish, not the Church as a whole. As difficult as it may be, I believe we can help build those parishes up instead of abandoning them with the suggestions I included at the end of the post.

And, yes, there are many other problems that need to be addressed, but your post dealt with the Mass, and that is the discussion that we are having at the moment. Thank you for initiating it — I hope it proves fruitful.”

Thank you Mary for speaking the truth and advocating for our faith and our church! I am with you and know you are doing the right thing. You are living in the Spirit as Jesus instructed us to do. Much love to you….Jesus told us we would be persecuted..stand strong and know that God is smiling. May you feel His light upon you.
